Aside from new releases and reggae classics, I’ve got a current hit list of 20 7″ singles I’d buy
a) if i could find them and
b) if i could afford them.

Probably both…

In no particular order:

1) George Jones – White Lightning
2) Johnnie Allen – Promised Land
3) Electric Prunes – I Had Too Much To Dream Last Night
4) Dave Bartholemew – The Monkey Speaks His Mind
5) Johnnie Kidd & The Pirates – Shakin’ All Over
6) Peanuts Wilson – Cast Iron Arm
7) Gin Gillette – Train To Satanville
8 Ray Charles – I’ve Got A Woman
9) Ray Bryant Combo – Madison Time (from the Hairspray soundtrack)
10) Thurston Harris – Itty Bitty Pretty One
11) MarionĀ  Williams – Packin’ Up
12) Thee Headcoatees – Have Love, Will Travel
13) Archie Bell & The Drells – Tighten Up
14) The Flamingoes – I Only Have Eyes For You
15) Pussy Galore – Dick Johnson
16) Those Dancing Days – Run Run
17) Hank Williams – Your Cheating Heart
18) Wendy Rene – After Laughter Comes Tears
19) ? & The Mysterians – 96 Tears
20) Wynonie Harris – Quiet Wiskey

But all is not lost – I have found an immaculate white vinyl copy of Bellbottoms by Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, so progress is being made.

(if you do happen to have spare copies of any of the above lying around, I’d be happy to swap for a Brian Eno box set or a signed Sundays CD)

One of my very favourite bloggers claims to be jacking it in. I don’t think it’ll last, that vitriol has to be directed somewhere…

Thanks to Chloe for introducing me to This Isnt Happiness, a brilliant image-only blog that posts a ludicrous number of seemingly random but usually very interesting images.

thanks to Loki for drawing my attention to an article by Genesis Breyer p-Orridge, written for a new book about The Process Church but actually one of the clearest and most accessible pieces I’ve ever read about what Thee Temple Ov Psychick Youth was all about. An excellent read, I might even shell out for the Process book itself.

Of course, what a lot of people don’t realise is that I’m actually a Ratio 6 (well, you didn’t think I spent all those teenage years jerking off for nothing, did you?)

seems 2010 is starting as badly as 2009 finished. Yabby You was one of the first reggae artists to really grab me, and will always be one of the greatest – a truly unique presence.

Pitchfork Praise Vic

With Christmas out of the way, Pitchfork has posted a rather excellent tribute to Vic Chesnutt, who died over the holiday. Was happy to see my very favourite Chesnutt song, Onion Soup, is included.
