Download: Bill Callahan – Bathysphere
A low-key, vinyl-only, sparsely arranged live album that eschews any “hits” or sense of career overview or “vibe”. Why bother?
Because it’s Bill Callahan / Smog, who’s songs are better, who’s voice is richer and more woody, who’s minor albums are more major, than almost anyone you can think of. That’s why. If you’ve seen him live, you’ll know what to expect, although the fiddles do add a certain ‘mountain music’ quality and give extra intensity to Bathysphere in particular, one of his best songs and a killer here.
