Parts of the new Swans album sound like The Bad Seeds would if Blixa had got it all his own way. Started me thinking about blasted, flyblown desert music, country stretched to its limits, avant & western. This mix kinda fell into place after that, but I’d value any suggestions for artists I might have missed… Heads up to Jared for the Forest Swords tip.

Evening Redness In The West (256kbps, 137mb, 75mins)

1. Ry Cooder – Dark Was The Night
2. Marco Beltrami – No Jiminez
3. Ennio Morricone – Deguello
4. Calexico – Untitled III
5. Phosporescent – Hej, I’m Light
6. Friends Of Dean Martinez – Inner Sanctum
7. Nick Cave & Warren Ellis – Cowgirl
8. Evangelista – Pissing
9. Califone – Horoscopic. Amputation. Honey.
10. Forest Swords – Hjurt
11. Swans – Jim
12. Neil Young – Guitar Solo 5
13. Earth – Rise To Glory
14. Ry Cooder – I Knew These People

[…] Brother Randy’s been on the sauce and gettin’ crazy and listenin’ to noisy music again. He’s even joined some of it together in some kind of mix. Now, I reckon a lot of you folks won’t like all of it, what with it bein’ all dirgy and grindy and all, but there’s some proper music in there too – Neil Young, Ry Cooder, that sorta thing, so maybe you oughtta just give it a try. You can give it a listen here […]

This mix sums up a vibe, that dusty, doomy end of country- avant & western as you call it, that I’ve felt for a while but never been able to quite put my finger on. Really enjoying it.

Great mix, makes me want to watch a bunch of westerns in the same style, if you know what I mean.
