There’s a long post brewing about Elvis, how I feel about him (yay!), how I used to feel about him (boo!) and all sorts of other stuff. But for now, I just want to commemorate what would have been his 75th birthday with a short mix of tunes that to my mind demonstrate that far from being a sad, sorry, bloated, spent force in the 70s, he still had a truly astonishing voice and a totally compelling relationship with his music.
Dubversion – Elvis Was A Hero To Me Even If He Never Meant Shit To Chuck D Mix
1. Polk Salad Annie (Live)
2. Good Time Charlie Got The Blues
3. Burning Love
4. Saved (Take 4)
5. Promised Land (Live)
6. Suspicious Minds
7. CC Rider (Live)
8. I Just Can’t Help Believin’
9. If I Can Dream
10. American Trilogy (Live)
(oh, and I’m pretty damn sure I remember seeing an interview where Chuck D retracted / apologised for “that” quote; he must have realised how fucking dumb it was to accuse Presley of racism when the evidence to the contrary is pretty much incontrovertible).
