Mclusky were one of the finest bands of the last decade, really really powerful and scathing and just brilliant. I genuinely miss them. Praise be, then, for Future of The Left.

Number 17: Future Of The Left – Travels With Myself And Another

If anything, album number two from the band (2/3rds of Mclusky and a Jarcrew) is even better than Curses, its predecessor. Still lovably abrasive but even more angular and spiky than before (the dread words “math rock” have been uttered but don’t let that put you off). Falkous’ lyrics are as barbed and disturbing as ever and the whole thing is just 33 minutes of really excellent hardcore. If I’d been having a more “hardcore” kind of year, this album would probably have placed a lot higher…
